MEET BRIANNA, THE MIND BEHIND CELESTIAL-BAKING
Hey, everyone! Thanks for stopping by! I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a 20-year old nutrition student who is going into my last semester of school in the fall. My long-term goal is to become a Registered Dietitian and work with malnutrition in different countries. But for now, I’m working a couple of jobs and doing some volunteer work in a local hospital and with an RD.
So that’s what I’m up to now, but where did I come from and why did I start this blog?
My family is originally from Haiti. Both of my parents were born there, which I think is the reason why God placed working with the malnourished on my heart. Many people in my family still live there, including my grandparents.
When I was young, I remember when my grandma would come to visit and always show my sister and I how to cook something. For some reason, I vividly remember her showing us how to properly make an omelette (and I still make it her way to this day). When my grandma wasn’t around, I would often bake with my mom. Even though we started out using boxed mixes, I was always so proud of the finished results. Those are probably the two people who influenced my cooking and baking the most. (Now I’ve matured from boxed mixes and get upset when other people want to help me while I’m in the kitchen. They never do it right!)
So how did I go from cooking and baking to starting a blog? The credit goes to Leah Kaufman, a New York-based registered dietitian whom I had the pleasure of interning with in the fall semester of 2015. She showed me The Big Man’s World and told me that it’s something that I should try. One semester later, here I am combining my nutrition knowledge with my love for cooking and baking.
Okay, I know this is long and you’re tired of reading, but I have one more story of how I got my name, Celestial-Baking. I promise it’s short!
Here it is: my middle name is Celeste. I was trying to come up with a name for my Instagram account when my sister said, “Why don’t you do Celestial-Baking?” At first, I hated the name. I talked to my mom about it and eventually I fell in love.
I came up with the tagline “a little bit of heaven in every bite” and now here we are. See? I told you it was short!
Now you know my story! I hope you stick around with me while I try to figure out this new and exciting world of blogging.
Thank you for reading,
